The palmetto tree with a half moon was adopted at the state flag of South Carolina in 1861. However, there is no official artwork. In 2020, government offices in South Carolina began using this new version of the flag. The South Carolina legislature was supposed to vote on an official version of the artwork and then never did.

Technically any variation of the artwork is still a legitimate state flag. However, this is the version of the artwork you are now most likely to see at state, county, and city offices in the state.

3’x5′ flags are 3ft x 5ft, 36in. by 60in, 91cm by 152cm, 1yard by 1.7yard. This is the most common size flag you see hanging on porches, small flag poles, hanging at festivals, and inside of bars and restaurants.
